HAP Vice President DeAndre Lipscomb Earns Leo B. Marsh Award from YMCA

DETROIT – DeAndre Lipscomb, vice president of marketing and community outreach for Health Alliance Plan, has been honored by the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit with the Leo B. Marsh Award, which honors community leaders, active board members or individuals who have given back to the YMCA.

Lipscomb has been a longtime supporter and active board member of the YMCA. In 2016 he was a major contributor of resources for YMCA’s Adopt-a-Family and Suits for Sons programs. These efforts and his professional contributions made him an ideal candidate for the Marsh award, which is the YMCA’s highest honor.

“My passion for community service is really two-fold. I truly believe that business people have a responsibility to make sure that those in need have access to critical resources to improve their health, environment and economic prospects,” said Lipscomb. “As part of that mission, we need to prepare young people for the challenges of work by teaching them communication and behavioral skills they’ll need to be successful.”

As vice president of marketing and community outreach at HAP, Lipscomb leads HAP’s marketing, corporate communications, public relations, community relations, worksite wellness and member experience strategies and programs. Prior to joining HAP in 2011, Lipscomb spent 13 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Driven by his passion for youth development, Lipscomb serves as an advisory board member for the Metro Youth YMCA and as president of the board for Spaulding for Children, which connects children with foster care and adoptive family services. He’s also a member of the Council for Michigan Foundations Corporate Contributions Committee and Mentoring Program. He has mentored young men through Winning Futures, recognized as Michigan’s 2007 Innovative Mentoring Program of the Year.

Lipscomb holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Wayne State University. He also earned a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University.

He holds a professional certification in Corporate Citizenship Management from Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship Carroll School of Management and he’s also a Leadership Oakland alumni and board member.
