HAP Bolsters Board, Adds Two Distinguished Healthcare Leaders

DETROIT, Mich. – Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, has added Gwen MacKenzie and Christopher Stanley, M.D. as director to the HAP board and non-director, Clinical and Service Quality Committee board member respectively.

“Gwen and Chris have more than 60 years of healthcare experience between the two of them,” said Dr. Michael Genord, HAP president and CEO. “We look forward to leveraging their deep knowledge to steward our growth as the industry evolves and help us continue to provide a best-in-class experience to our members.”

MacKenzie is a CEO with experience leading complex healthcare organizations through strategic repositioning and new service innovation. As a senior executive with Ascension Healthcare, she oversaw the Michigan market with 15 hospitals and health systems and $3.7 billion in operating revenue. Prior to her role at Ascension, MacKenzie served as CEO of First Step, a full continuum of mental health and addiction services. MacKenzie currently serves as a senior advisor in McKinsey and Company’s Global Healthcare Practice.

Dr. Stanley has more than 30 years’ experience as a clinician and healthcare leader across physician group, health system and health plan organizations with a passion for improving equity in cost and quality of care. He currently services as President, Healthy Populations for Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) where he created a wholly owned, independent population health services organization. Dr. Stanley’s organization provides industry-leading care management, utilization management and population health analytics services. Prior to joining HFHS, Dr. Stanley served as the first system chief population health officer at Sutter Health in Northern California.

MacKenzie earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health care administration from the University of Michigan. She received a master’s degree in nursing from the University of California, Los Angeles. Stanley earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.
